Sand paint

This is what happens to the beach after a heavy rain. The sand on the dunes is lighter than the sand on the beach, so it tends to bleed down, making these cool drippy marks.

Nature is so cool sometimes all the time.

Heart

Happy Valentine's Day!

I happen to hate cantaloupes. I even hate the way they smell. But John loves them so I buy them and cut them up, just for him. If that's not love, I don't know what is.

This cantaloupe is showing some love right back.

Unfortunately my Valentine is out working, but I plan on getting some cuddles tonight before the day is over.

I love you John. Now and always and forever.

Yours,
Amalia

Confused

Obviously Northern California is different than the Northeast. I get that. But I need to talk about the seasons here for a minute. Or more accurately, the season. One continuous Fall, with splashes of Summer, Spring, and Winter all at once.

I know I have only been here for 6 months, so I don't really know how a full year pans out, but in this time the weather has been consistently inconsistent. A single week can witness a whiplash of temperatures. High then low, sunny then grey, winter jacket and hat then what the fuck, t-shirts and sandals. I don't like having to carry an entire wardrobe of clothing with me at all times so I can constantly peel off or add on layers at random throughout the day.

But that's just me.

This phenomenon can be easily demonstrated with the trees here.

All of these photos were taken this week. (with my iphone)

Spring is in bloom! It smells delicious.

Just kidding. It's totally fall. Look at that lovely fall foliage! *

Actually, no, it's the dead of winter.

But wait, it's balmy enough for palm trees! **

And let's not forget about the very popular, What The Fuck Kind of Mangled Tree is this? Seriously, they are all over the place. ***

Okay, I'm done ranting about the weather. And I'm not saying I have a problem with any of this. It's cool to walk down the street and smell Spring, Summer, and Fall all once. It prevents you from getting that, "I'm totally sick of this season," feeling that people back home suffer from.

But I don't think I am alone in this. You would be confused too.

For context, in case you are interested:

Lazy day after a stressful week

We have been having a rough week.

The car broke down, and it's not worth spending so much money on the repairs needed to make it reliable again. So, we are thinking of buying a pre-owned car. This is not a set in stone decision yet, but while we figure it out we are taking the bus. Which means Luna can't come to work with me :( She has not been happy about this turn of events. Sorry Luna, neither are we.

Needless to say it's been a stressful week. To unwind, this is how we are spending our Saturday morning.

There are a million things I should be doing. But right now it feels better to bury my head in the sand...I mean covers. Plus it's raining, which is always a valid excuse for laziness.

Puppy love

Is there anything better than a puppy?

Obviously not!

And obviously, when you are an adorable puppy, you get to ride shotgun. It is your absolute right, just for being so cute. Plus, how else would I be able to reach over and squeeze your wrinkles!?

 Lulu

Lloyd

So easily tuckered out!

Don't be so jealous...

Work

When I have a bad day, I need to remember that this is where I work.

Well, for 2 hours out of every day. The rest of it is driving. But hey, let's appreciate that view, shall we?

Family portrait

I took this photo with my iphone last night, with the reverse camera function. It is so grainy because the forward-facing camera doesn't have a flash.

Also, don't be mislead...the only reason Luna is on her own bed on the floor is because she was either, 1. chewing on a bone, or 2. sucking on her blanky. These are the only two reasons she is ever not under the covers, in between me and John these days.

Oh, so spoiled! I blame John for it. He blames me. We both blame Luna.
